Moorpark College Raider Matty Toczynski hits in a game against Cerritos College at Moorpark College on Feb. 9, 2012.
Moorpark baseball will travel to Santa Barbara City College today to start Western State Conference play.
The Raiders have started the season slowly; but have picked it up in recent games, winning two out of their last three. Capturing one of those wins on the road at Bakersfield Community College, 4-3.
They hold a (5-10) record and look to start off the conference season on a positive not against the Vaqueros who carries a (6-8) record coming into WSC play.
Kenny Overly, a freshman from Camarillo HS, has given the Raiders the spark they’ve been looking for in the past couple games. The outfielder led his team to victory with his bat, getting 3 hits and 3 RBIs against Bakersfield. One of the hits was delivered in heroic fashion at the top of the ninth inning while the Raiders were down 2-3. His two out single drove in the tying run and the go-ahead run, giving Moorpark the eventual winning tally, 4-3.
Although Overly’s play has been on form in recent games, designated hitter, Matt Toczynski has been raking the ball from the beginning. Logging a hit, RBI, or run-scored in almost every game.
According to the Weather Channel, the weather looks to be cloudy all day in Santa Barbara and should stay dry, with temperatures lurking around 57˚F.
The first pitch will be thrown at 2 p.m. today.
