The halfway point of the 2014 volleyball season is nearing for the Moorpark Lady Raiders.

The team is already on the positive side with a 2-1 conference record, and with 9 straight conference games coming up, the team has everything to prove.

Currently tied for second place in the conference the Lady Raiders look to hold there place and move up into the first place slot. The Ladies are very confident in doing so and feel good moving into part two of their 2014 season.

“Our team is pretty strong this year,” said second-year middle blocker Melissa Brueckner. “When we are working together and playing as a unit at 100%, there is no doubt that we can beat any team in the conference.”

The team will finish the month with three more road games with just one home game. However, the Lady Raiders will start November with four straight home games, including a Nov. 7 Friday night game facing the Lady Raider’s rival Ventura College Pirates. The same week the team will also have a Wednesday night showdown on Nov. 5 with the current conference leader Santa Barbara Vaqueros who currently sit alone in first place of the WSC North at 3-0.

The Ladies have proven they can win either on the road or in their own building.

“I am feeling good about the rest of the season” said setter Lauren Burt “We are definitely going to have more battles but if we keep getting better and pushing harder I think the (season’s) result will be in our favor.”

Last season the team went 3-4 in WSC conference play in the month of October. After a hot 4-1 finish in November the team fell short of a playoff run in a tough conference with a 7-5 finish. With a hot start early this year, this team and their season looks promising.

The team feels as great and talented as they are there is always room for improvement.

“No matter how confident we are either individually or as a team” Brueckner said, “There is always room for improvement for each one of us”

The team is on track for a impressively strong finish. The Lady Raiders are off to a strong start and can finish strong if they remain on their current pace. Improving everyday there is no telling what kind of push this team make in the regular and post season.
