Moorpark College held a special online event in honor of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. “Portrait of Strength” included a discussion with retired NYC Fire Captain Alfredo Fuentes, survivor and battalion chief during the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

On the intersection of Thousand Oaks Blvd and Westlake Blvd, cries for justice for what the protesters called a ‘Palestinian genocide’ echoed down the streets. On the opposite side of town at the corner of Thousand Oaks Blvd and Kanan Rd, there were also cries; cries for peace and to stop hate.

City of Moorpark hosts Earth Festival and community yard sale to celebrate Arbor Day

To celebrate Arbor Day, the City of Moorpark hosted the “Moorpark Earth Festival and Community Yard Sale”. The festival consisted of many different booths selling new and used items, along with a variety of Earth-friendly materials.

Country Fire fully contained after burning 28 acres north of Westlake High School

On Thursday afternoon a brush fire was reported just up the road from Westlake High School. The fire, dubbed the Country Fire, quickly grew to 28 acres triggering mandatory evacuations of over 1100 residents.

Moorpark man arrested for rape and attempted murder of a 76-year-old woman

Moorpark police arrested 49-year-old Moorpark resident Edward Ayans for rape and attempted murder on April 20. According to a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office media release, Ayans had allegedly raped and severely beaten a 76-year-old woman inside her apartment on Charles Street.

California Lutheran University hosts sociology professor and author for a virtual presentation on vaccine suspicion

Sociologist Jennifer Reich, PhD has been studying vaccine suspicion in this country for more than a decade before the COVID-19 pandemic began. California Lutheran University hosted a virtual lecture via Zoom on April 6 where Reich claimed vaccine hesitancy and refusal from parents can be linked to individual choice and healthism.
