LA Valley defeated Moorpark 8-2 on Thursday, holding Moorpark scoreless until the 7th inning.
Valley opened the game with a score of 2-0 in the 1st inning, and kept piling it on with more runs in the 4th and 5th inning. At the end of the 5th inning, Valley had shown their dominance by a score of 7-0.
Even though the Raiders made few mistakes during the game, at the bottom of the 7th inning Valley added one more point to their score. However, outfielder Amanda Chatman, hit a two-run triple for the Raiders that gave them their only two runs for the day, closing the score at 8-2.
The start of the Raider’s season hasn’t began as smoothly as desired. With a team of only freshman and new head coach, Dave Fox, the odds are stacked up against this Raider softball team.
This is the second home game; regardless of the score, the Raiders played with an excellent attitude and great motivation.
“This is just to build us up; we are just working towards getting ready for the conference play,” said Coach Fox. “We are a young team and we need games, and this is just one of those games towards getting better, so it doesn’t affect us either way really.”
As a young inexperienced team, the Raiders are looking to learn from their mistakes. They keep working on their fundamentals and drills to improve and prepare their functions, thus learning to compete and make it to the conference championship, according to Coach Fox.
Outfielder, Megan Earle, has high hopes for the season and plans to keep giving her best in each practice and in each game.
“I think it makes us stronger actually because we have to learn from our mistakes,” said Earle.
