The Oxnard College Condors softball team may not have planned on it, but they managed to share the wealth of a double-header, splitting it in half with Santa Barara City College (1-0, 2-4) Tuesday afternoon.
Condors head coach Paul Garziano believes his team is working on avoiding inconsistent play, but sometimes it seems inevitable.
“That’s typically how we play,” Garziano said. “We had about five errors that caused us runs. We had opportunities in both games.”
In game one, the Condors (11-8) competed in the ultimate pitcher’s duel, scoring the lone run of the game on a Kandice Amaro home run to take the first of the doubleheader.
In game two, however, the Condors allowed runners to get on base after a couple errors, and continued to struggle getting runs on the board. Despite 13 hits, the Condors only produced two runs. In both the fourth and fifth innings, runners were left in scoring position.
Michelle Getman pitched strong, but also allowed seven hits, taking the loss.
Though his team struggled at times, Garziano did have some praise for the Lady Condors.
“I was very happy with what they did,” he said.
The Condors hope to be able to produce hits with runners in scoring position when they travel to L.A. Pierce to take on the Brahmas Thursday at 2 p.m.
