In a state of disappointment, the Moorpark College Women’s Volleyball team suffered a 1-3 loss on Nov. 9 against Santa Barbara City College.
The Raiders were in an attentively challenged matchup with the Vaqueros by the set scores of 27-25, 18-25, 25-22, and 25-21.
Christina Sadler, setter, said that the team gave it everything that they had.
“I think that everybody came out wanting to win and we played with a lot of heart,” said Sadler. “Even though the results, weren’t what we wanted we all gave our best effort.”
The loss to Santa Barbara City knocks Moorpark College from their reigning throne of four consecutive WSC Championships. The loss also keeps SBCC in first place over Moorpark College.
Head Coach Steve Burkhart explained that his team lost due to their communication.
“I think our passing broke down a little bit out there and that hurt us,” said Burkhart.
Rebecca Jones led the way for the Raiders with 12 kills and four blocks. Gabby Luciani added nine kills, 11 digs, and four blocks while Megan Stephens chipped in 11 digs and two aces.
Athletic Director Howard Davis said that the Raiders played a great season this year.
“I think they have had a great season given their youth and inexperience,” said Davis. “We had a lot of new girls and a tough act to follow with last year where we didn’t lose one set in conference.”
The Raiders closed out their season at home and play their last regular season game on Wednesday, Nov. 14 against the cross county rival, Ventura College at 7 p.m.
