The Child Development Center is having its annual Discovery Day fundraiser, which is being held on March 2. Organizers hope to increase public awareness of developmentally appropriate programs, activities and focus on hands on experiences for children.
Discovery Day is held once a year, and is a day dedicated to children at Moorpark College.
Bonnie Baruch, Discovery Day coordinator and Child Development Center site supervisor said that children are the primary focus of the event.
“There will be a lot of hands on experiences for children with ages ranging from 1 to 8 years,” said Baruch.
Discovery Day is open to the community and is inviting all age groups to join in.
Baruch said that the event is a great opportunity for students to observe children on the site.
“The Child Development Center is important because it specializes in teaching teachers how to teach, and also what a lab school can offer children,” said Baruch.
Although the primary focus is the children, Baruch said that Discovery Day can be enjoyed by all who attend the annual event.
“Discovery Day is going to be a good time had by all,” said Baruch. “We are holding a silent auction for adults and students.”
Discovery Day is the only fundraiser for the Child Development Center, and is only held once per year.
“It is a community event and is being held on Moorpark’s campus,” said Baruch. “It is benefitting yoga to children for no additional cost.”
There is going to be a silent auction, live music and face painting for the children. Discovery Day will be held Saturday, March 2 at the Child Development Center. It will start at 10:30 am and continues until 1:30 pm. Ticket pricing is $6 for children 12 months to 8 years, and $4 for adults and children over 8 years.
