A variety of dance styles will be performed at the Motion Flux performance held in the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center on April 26-28 at 8 p.m. and April 29 at 2 p.m.
The performance was choreographed by a plethora of student and faculty choreographers who were joined by guest artists Nancy Evans Dance Theatre and Megill & Company. The dances will be performed by a Moorpark College dance class as well as the Moorpark College Touring Ensemble.
Dance Professor Robert Salas, who is directing the event, said that there are many skilled performers in the group.
“There are some really talented students and I am really proud of them,” said Salas.
Students from the Moorpark College dance class and the touring ensemble went through placement auditions in January and have been rehearsing several hours every week since, including during spring break.
The dances are choreographed to depict stories of finding your individuality and the Holocaust, among other things. The performances will feature all types of dances including ballet, tap, hip-hop, and modern. There will also be a variety of musical styles to help portray the stories, which vary from techno to classical.
On Thursday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center main stage, selected student works will be performed to give people a little teaser of what the concert will be like. There will be a meet and greet/ question-and-answer session with the choreographers after the performances. There is no admission fee to this event.
Salas says that he cannot wait to see the performance and wants to see how all of their hard work will turn out.
“I am excited to see what the show is going to look like when it finally opens,” said Salas.
The performance itself costs $15 for the general public, and $10 for students, seniors, and staff. There is a 20% discount if tickets are purchased online. For more ticket information, or to buy tickets, visit the Performing Arts Box Office or visit www.moorparkcollege.edu/pac.
