In a close game that determined who went to the Regional Finals, Moorpark College Women’s Basketball team advanced past Palomar College with a score of 68-60.
Lindsay Goldblatt, head coach of the Raiders, said that Riley Abraham and Katie Lenik were difference makers in the game.
“I think we did a really good job collectively as a group to do whatever we needed to do to get the win,” said Goldblatt.
The Raiders had previously won their first game against Cypress College by a score of 48-41 to advance to the semifinals.
In the first half, the game went back and forth with both teams taking the lead. The lead started to settle when the Raiders had a four-point halftime lead by a score of 30-26. The Raiders almost received some bad news when Abraham went down with an ankle injury. She returned in the second half which gave the Raiders a boost to take over the game. The Raiders had Abraham lead the team into the second half with 12 points and Alison Dobner and Gabrielle Root helped with three points each.
In the second half, the Raiders dominated with Lenik scoring 12 points to lead the team while Abraham was out of the game. The Raiders dominated with their inside game of Abraham and Lenik. Abraham dominated with 29 points and 17 rebounds and Lenik added 14 points. Camilla Chun helped the team win the game by finishing with seven points, five steals, and five assists.
Howard Davis, athletic director, said that everyone in the Moorpark College community should take pride in the Raiders basketball team.
“They have done tremendous things and overcome unbelievable adversity throughout the year to get to this regional final game, it’s the farthest we’ve been in several years,” said Davis.
Riley Abraham, post player said that she is proud of her team and wants to get ready for the next game.
“We are just going to focus on the next game and see what happens, play as hard as we have been,” said Abraham.
The Raiders will travel to Mt. San Jacinto College in Hemet against Mt. San Jacinto on March 9 to play in the CCCAA Regional Final game.
