Moorpark College selected current dean Dr. Lori Bennett to oversee campus instruction and student learning.
Bennett said that she is looking forward to continue serving Moorpark College in her new position.
“It is an honor to have the college put this much trust in me,” said Bennett in an email interview.
Bennett will assume her new position on July 1, taking over interim Jane Harmon. At the beginning of the fall 2011 semester the EVP quit and his duties were divided between Bennett and other deans until Harmon took over on July 9, 2012.
Bennett came to the college in 1995 where she began as a business professor, then served as department chair. She has been dean of student learning for the past six years.
“I have truly enjoyed my time as a dean of student learning,” said Bennett. “I will miss the daily interaction with so many faculty and staff members. I hope to continue to be a role model as EVP.”
One of Bennett’s goals is to help students move on in their educational plans. Meeting with an academic counselor can help students develop their goals.
“I am looking forward to providing leadership and acting as a resource for the campus as we continue to focus on providing a quality education and strong student support services for our students,” said Bennett. “Moorpark College has such a dedicated group of faculty, staff, and administrators that will be a joy to work with people from all across campus.”
Dean Inajane Nicklas said that Bennett is passionate and committed to community colleges.
“I find her to be an effective manager of college operations due to her intellectual ability to rapidly and accurately process complex information, her strong work ethic, and her determination,” said Nicklas.
VCCCD Chancellor Jamilla Moore said that she is looking forward to having Bennett on board.
“I believe Dr. Bennett is an excellent choice for EVP of Moorpark College,” said Moore in an email.
