OC students strive to keep an eye on their studies.
Now, they will have an eye on the galaxy.
Donna Gustafson, the wife of late Oxnard Fire Chief Henry Gustafson, donated her husband’s telescope to the college through the Oxnard College Foundation.
Henry Gustafson, also a community activist, bought the telescope as his health was failing and would take it up to Lake Casitas on camping trips to get a glimpse of the stars untainted by light pollution. Now, the Gustafson’s telescope has found a new home at OC fulfilling the late fire chief’s wishes.
It has already found a use in Dr. Gary Goodman’s astronomy class.
According to the OC press release, Mrs. Gustafson was excited to see her husband’s telescope put to good use.
“He would have been glad to see that his telescope was so appreciated by the students at Oxnard College,” said Mrs. Gustafson.
