Stress and anxiety are common feelings among college students when finals come around, so Moorpark College Health Center is taking action to help to ease students’ minds.
All week long, the staff from the Health Center will be set on the second floor of the LLR building, giving out chocolate and helpful tips on how students can relieve some stress and cope with the pressure of finals.
On the first official day of finals, Thursday Dec. 12 at 10 and 10:15 am, a free drop in meditation workshop will be held at the Student Health Center. The workshop will continue throughout finals week, on Monday Dec. 16 at 10 and 10:15 am, Tuesday Dec. 17 at 2:30 and 2:45 pm, and on Wednesday Dec. 18 at 5 and 5:15 pm.
Post Doctoral Trainee, Dr. Tahney Gaige will be going through Mindfulness Training with students who attend. This kind of meditation focuses students on being completely present, awake, and attentive of what is going on in the moment. It will also help the students have a better attitude about finals week, or whatever else that they are experiencing in their lives.
The foundation of this training is based upon non-judging, patience, having a beginners mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and letting go.
For more information on stress relief methods or the meditation workshop, you can call the Student Health Center at (805)378-1413 or visit room 111 in the Administration Building.
