Moorpark College’s Board of Trustees held a meeting in Ventura on Feb. 11 to discuss the two new degrees and six new courses being offered at Moorpark College.
The new degrees are Associate in Arts in English for Transfer and Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer. The newest courses being offered are Honors General Chemistry I, Honors Introduction to Criminal Justice, Bujinkan – Practical Self Defense, VMware vSphere Fundamentals, Film/Television Portfolio II, and Student News Media Staff Editing II.
One of the newest degrees is an Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer (AS-T in Physics). Students who are looking to complete this degree will apply fundamental physical laws and equations. The AS-T in Physics is intended for students who plan to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree in Physics or Physics Education at a CSU campus.
The other new degree is an Associate in Arts in English for Transfer (AA-T in English). Students who are looking to complete this degree will obtain a basic understanding of reading and writing skills and an appreciation of literature. The AA-T in English is intended for students who plan to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree in English, English Literature, or Creature Writing at a CSU campus.
The Board of Trustees is currently attempting to implement an Associate in Arts in Spanish for Transfer (AA-T in Spanish). This degree is intended for students who plant to transfer and complete a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, or a similar major at a CSU campus. More information regarding the AA-T in Spanish be available to the public at a later date.
Not only are specific courses required for all Associate degrees, but a student must also have 60 CSU transferable semester units, a minimum GPA of at least a 2.0 in all CSU transferable coursework, have completed 30 specified major units for the AS-T in Physics, 19 specified major units for the AA-T in English, or 24 specified major units for the AA-T in Spanish with a C or better, or a “P” if the course is on a pass-no-pass basis, and completed the IGETC for the CSU pattern.
