Moorpark College’s president of the past five years, Dr. Pam Eddinger, is leaving the college to take a new position as president at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, college officials confirmed today.
Eddinger said in an email that with a good system of management in place, a dedicated student support structure, and a strong faculty, students will not be directly affected by her departure.
“Having helped build these good systems for our students, the transition should be seamless and stable,” said Eddinger.
VCCCD Chancellor Dr. Jamilla Moore said that an interim president will be appointed to lead Moorpark College until a permanent replacement is chosen by July 2014.
“We have big shoes to fill because Dr. Eddinger is amazing,” said Moore.
The final decision from Bunker Hill came Tuesday morning after the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education officially appointed Eddinger to the position. Eddinger was unanimously recommended for the position by the Bunker Hill Community College Board of Trustees and at its April 22 meeting.
Eddinger returns to Massachusetts after eight years with Moorpark College. She served as executive vice president and chief academic officer at Massachusetts Bay Community College before she came to Moorpark College as executive vice president in 2005. In 2008, she was appointed president of Moorpark College.
According to the Bunker Hill Community College catalog, the college has more than 14,000 students and is a multi-campus urban institution with one large campus, a second smaller campus, and three satellite campuses.
Moore said that a committee will be formed to choose candidates to fill the position in 2014. After a search, the committee will recommend final candidates to the chancellor, who will make the final selection.
Moore said that Eddinger will be missed, but the fact that she was chosen is a great reflection on the work that we are doing in the district.
“I am very excited for her because this is a great opportunity,” said Moore. “Dr. Eddinger is a proven leader with results. She has done an extraordinary job at Moorpark College.”
