Donovan dished off a perfect through ball to Clint Dempsey who had been denied so many times by Algeria’s goalkeeper Raïs M’Bolhi.

Dempsey ripped it, but right at M’Bolhi.

But M’Bolhi committed a cardinal sin for goal keepers, he sneezed it up, and as if to say “bless you,”Landon Donovan was right there waiting to knock it in, and with that tip in, every American butt collectively raised off the couch in unison.

Well, now it is the women’s turn to try to give American soccer an amazing story like that moving forward. The United States has already claimed two World Cup titles, but those were in 1991 and 1999.

Seeing as both of those titles came in the last millennium, I think we are ready to see some amazing soccer for the women’s side.

It should be doable for them, as they had an amazing journey just to be invited to the cup.

The US women’s cup dreams had ended with a 2-0 loss to Mexico, or so the soccer world thought.

But then a scenario popped up; they beat Costa Rica and earned a game against Italy. If they could win both those games, then they could come home to the U.S. and host Italy in a winner-take-all game.

Well, the women did all that, defeating Costa Rica 2-0, and then Italy 1-0 on both occasions.

As we move forward, the U.S. soccer program continues to be a force to be reckoned with. I know I will be celebrating the red, white and blue for the World Cup.
