On Thursday Nov. 17, ASG is having multiple representatives come to their meeting to express their position on the effects that Oxnard College will soon be facing, entitled “We Love Oxnard.”
Oxnard Community College’s Associated Student Government has stood up for everyone affected by this deficit, and right now California is under huge amounts of stress due to the financial crisis that we are currently in.
ASG President Carlos Gonzalez Sr. was able to organize seven different representatives to come into meeting.
“I wanted a wide spectrum of people to come in and speak; a hierarchy of people from state to local administration,” stated Gonzalez.
Some of the representatives that are planning to attend are, James Joyce Williams- State Rep, Carmen Ramirez- Oxnard City Council Member, Dr. Steve Hall- President of the American, Art Hernandez- Board of Trustees Member, Dr. Duran- Oxnard President, Dr. John Alamean- Vice President of Business Services, Robert Cabrall- Oxnard Academic Services Senate President.
The purpose for this meeting is to inform students and the community of the effects that are going to happen. Oxnard College is one of the smallest campuses and is facing a huge hardship with the cuts that are currently being planned.
“They are taking away the livelihood from our campus!” stated Gonzales.
The state’s plan is to remove multiple departments including auto body, automotive technology, accounting, business, ceramics, computer information systems, and music, film and TV classes.
“We just received $100,000 to put towards a new paint booth and now it’s going to be a waste if the auto body department is going to be cut.” stated Gonzalez.
If you would like to be involved and informed about the current budget cuts at Oxnard College, you can call any of the current officers at (805) 986-5800.
