Covering nearly the entire east parking lot, tents stretched from one end to another displayed products from Los Angeles Lakers ponchos to Michael Jackson figurines at the Alpha Gamma Sigma Yard Sale Market Place last Saturday, Feb. 26.
More than 50 small business vendors set up stands during the event that lasted from the early morning on Saturday to the afternoon of the following Sunday last weekend.
The AGS were also present among the vendors who were at the Market Place. All of the items sold were donated to the club by students, faculty and community members. The success of their sales far exceeded their expectations.
“We got swarmed. Everything was getting sold out, so this time we made sure we got plenty of items,” said AGS President Teresa Montoya.
Although the weekend turned out fairly lucrative, the yard sale was almost cancelled on the count of rain. The announcement of whether or not the event was held was made through Facebook, as the Internet was a prime method of linking the participants of the yard sale.
“I actually cancelled the sale the night before,” said Yard Sale Organizer Bjorn McMillan. “When I got up it was sunny and it was a scramble from there to rally the troops… but we ended up grossing about $217 that day so it worked out.”
The Yard Sale Market Place was organized to be a fundraiser for the RELAY FOR LIFE. More than $600 was obtained over the weekend. 60 percent will be donated to RELAY FOR LIFE, while the rest will go to the American Cancer Society and other AGS activities.
