On Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. the women’s volleyball team played against Allen Hancock College, in a mission to beat both the bulldogs and breast cancer.
The game marked Moorpark College’s 4th annual “Dig Pink” event, with all proceeds going to the Side-Out foundation in support of breast cancer research.
Hosted by parents and volunteers, there was a delicious bake sale with many choices. Along with a wide array of cookies, brownies, cupcakes and cake pops the bake sale also had gluten-free delectable goodies. Someone was even nice enough to donate honey of all sorts to sell.
George Glaab, proud parent of Amber Glaab boasted about the team’s involvement.
“All the items were baked by the team themselves,” said George.
“Dig Pink” also had a merchandise booth where guests could buy “Dig Pink” gear and purchase raffle tickets to win prizes
Such raffle prizes included gift baskets, gift cards, and even movie packages.
Guests could also pay a small fee to have names of loved ones affected by the disease, past or present, put on the “Wall of Honor”.
Liz Luciani, mother to Gabby Luciani, explained that this year’s event had much more to offer than last years, including the turnout.
“There is a bigger turnout this year, more merchandise and definitely more raffles,” Luciani said. “I thought the wall of honor was pretty cool too.”
Patty Jones, proud mom to Outside-Hitter and event planner Rebecca Jones, predicted the girls to win in three games.
“They played Hancock earlier this season and already beat them,” explained Patty.
Taylor Susim and Rebecca Jones scored the first few points putting the Raiders in the lead.
The set scores were 25-11, 25-17, and 25-14. Amber Glaab led the hitters with 15 kills and 17 digs, while Gabby Luciani had 7 kills and 20 digs. Christina Saddler and Brittnie Blanchard had 12 and 23 assists.
Patty was right; the cumulative score was 3-0, with the Lady Raiders in the lead.
