MC Associated Students held their annual Horror Movie Night with the Showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and costume contest on Thursday Oct. 27.
The night started with Peggy O’Neil’s beginning acting class students doing improvisations on stage that never failed to keep the crowd laughing.
When the students were done with their performance, members of Associated Students lined up the contestants of the costume contest and the crowd cheered loudly for their favorites of the night.
The four winners were Puff the magic dragon, Waldo, a glitter cat and a sweet bumblebee.
Other costume ideas consisted of Sally from “The Nightmare before Christmas”, a cute nerd and even a Janet Weiss.
Grace Craig, the campus events director and film production major, was in charge of planning the event and hoped everyone would enjoy it.
Associated Students vice president and communications major JT Mendoza wished for the same outcome as well, as he greeted everyone and helped to hype up the crowd for the main event.
“I hope they like it, I want it to become a monthly tradition to show a movie here on campus,” said Mendoza. “We decided to start with the Rocky Horror Picture show because in L.A it’s a tradition, it’s been a tradition since the mid 70’s to show this movie around Halloween.”
After the costume winners were chosen, it was time for the main event, and everyone was excited to not only see the movie but also be a part of it.
Mendoza announced that he, along with the other members of Associated Students, use callbacks, if anyone in the audience came up with witty remarks they were encouraged to scream them out during the movie.
Jordan Farrell, an EATM program student, was one audience member who had no problem with the callbacks.
“I really like the show, I’ve seen it so many times,” said Farrell. “I liked that people heard the jokes and got them. Everyone was laughing, it was fun.”
The audience participated in the various jokes and in singing along with the songs, such as “Damnit Janet” and “Hot Patootie-Bless My Soul”.
However everyone’s favorite appeared to be “Time Warp” in which everyone not only sang along but danced to as well.
John Hoban who is a kinesiology major at MC seemed to be really enjoying the event.
“It was energetic and it got you out of your comfort zone,” said Hoban.
The event was a hit and left the attendees wanting more and left the Associated Students with great expectations for what they hope becomes a Moorpark tradition.
