The Ventura College Woman’s basketball team, with the assistance of Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), will be hosting the third annual WBCA Pink Zone breast cancer awareness game at the Ventura College Athletic Event Center on Feb. 9.
The WBCA Pink Zone started in 2007 as a program to bring breast cancer awareness in women’s basketball and communities. The WBCA Pink Zone has raised nearly $3.3 million, reached approximately 2.7 million fans and unified over 4,700 participants in only four years, according to the press release sent out by VC.
The team has dedicated these events to the memory of Cherie Hampton Tsui, who passed away from cancer in 2007.
The event will start at 5 p.m. with various activities and a silent auction. The silent auction will be benefiting Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation has been serving those who have been affected with breast cancer with as much information about the illness as possible. The ROL has been around since 2007 and is full of different ages, races, cultures and genders coming together to achieve higher standards of support for the deadly disease.
The VC men’s basketball team will be playing against Santa Barbara at 5 p.m. The women’s team will be playing at 7 p.m.
It is not required but it is much appreciated if supporters were to wear pink to the events to show awareness to breast cancer.
