Fans applauded as the Moorpark College Women’s Volleyball Team celebrated their fifth shutout of the season by winning 3-0 against Cuesta College on Nov. 2 at Moorpark College.
The Raiders looked strong from the start of the first set through the rest of the game. They didn’t let up on the Cougars as they won their sets with final scores of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-12.
Middle Blocker Gabriella Luciani said that Taylor Susim’s big plays helped the Raiders maintain their strong start.
“I think Taylor’s big hit and big blocks were awesome,” said Luciani. “I think that really helped us out a lot.”
Head Coach Steve Burkhart said that his team played well on offense and defense.
“I thought our serve receive was good and that really helped us and I thought we played as good of defense as we played in a while,” said Burkhart.
The win brings the Raiders to its fifth straight victory and sets up a championship rematch against Santa Barbara City College.
Athletic Director Howard Davis said that the next matchup against Santa Barbara City College is going to be a huge game for the Raiders.
“They beat us last time so there one game ahead of us and so if we beat them here we will tie for the championship,” said Davis.
The win brings the team to a 7-4 record with their next game against Santa Barbara City College on Nov. 9 at Raider Pavilion at 7 p.m.
