Howling chaos, turbulent schizophrenia and eclectic anarchy.
This was the scene at the McNish Gallery at Oxnard College on Oct. 5. On display was a new show dedicated to the modern art forms that use video as their medium.
The art gallery was titled “Test Pattern: A Survey of Artists Using the Video Medium” and was put on by Ryan Lamb, the event curator.
“This is really about how accessible the video medium is to different artists,” said Lamb.
Many of the almost two dozen artists represented in the show were not solely video artists. Some of them included sculptors, painters and installation artists.
The art pieces on display included a music video for the band Falcon Eddy and video of a man creepily staring at passers-by and a naked woman getting covered paint in front of a crowd.
Matt Wardell, an artist whose work was represented at the show had a lot to say about this developing form of art.
“Society is moving further and further, art is now participatory,” said Wardell. “Culture has an equal number of people producing as consuming.”
Wardell’s piece “Catawampus” was on display for the first time in public, and he was very excited to see the reaction it received from students.
