Moorpark hosted Allan Hancock Saturday night in their second meeting of the year and won handily 77-53.
Hancock’s Camille Zumbro came into the the game as the state’s leading scorer with just over 30 points a game. It was evident that Zumbro was Hancock’s only threat as Moorpark jumped out a 34-10 lead mid-way through the first half.
Hancock had a little run of their own towards the latter stages of the first half; but, still had a large hill to climb as they went into the lockeroom trailing 50-26 at halftime.
Sophomore guard, Charnae Thomas, was the star of the night for the Raiders with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
“We have played every team in conference now so we know how to play them,” said Thomas. ” We knew what we had to do and we went out there and did it.”
The game never got close as Moorpark rallied off a big run to put Hancock away early in the second half. At one point the score was 64-34, which put the Raiders in the driver’s seat. Freshman center Katie Lenik co-starred in the game with 20 points and 6 rebounds in the eventual victory.
The Raiders are now (6-1) in WSC play and will next play at Cuesta College on Saturday, February 4th at 5 pm.
