Another victory was earned by the Moorpark College Women’s Soccer team when they beat Rio Hondo 1-0 in the final minutes of their game on Tuesday.
Sophomore Kajia Fortuna, scored the winning goal off of a corner kick. The assist came from Freshman Brianna Mellon.
Athletic Director Howard Davis believes that the Raiders were on their game and had a good day.
“It was great,” said Davis. “Brianna Mellon came off the bench and had a great corner kick that lead to our only goal.”
At the start of the game, both the Raiders and Rio Hondo attacked the goal in an effort to take more shots than the other team. The teams played a strong defensive game that led to a scoring drought for most of the match.
Eric Privat, Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer team, believes that the women need to finish when the opportunity arrives.
“Looking at the result of what we have done in the past, this time we put the ball away two or three times,” said Privat.
Julie Watson, Center Defender for the Women’s Soccer team implies that the team needs to improve on specific areas in order to win the next game.
“We just need to get are rhythm going earlier, get more goals and take more shots and keep creating opportunities and putting them away,” said Watson.
The Women’s Soccer Team is now 3-4-1 and will play at Ventura College next Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
