Ventura College East Campus hosted its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Oct. 24.
The Associated Students of East Campus organized a breast cancer awareness event for the second year. Educational materials for breast cancer were given out to students.
Some of the items given out included pink buttons, stickers and pencils, representative of the international symbol for breast cancer, a pink ribbon. Students were also able to enter free raffles to win calendars and other “pink” items.
Sierra Doehr, the first East Campus ASVC representative to be in office since the campus opened, was greatly supportive of the event.
“We put out lots of educational materials about support for those with breast cancer, how to detect, all about mammograms and much more,” said Doehr in an email.
Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market supplied a donation of $50 worth of pink lemonade and granola bars, made available for free to the attendees. All staff members who were present at the event wore pink for identification purposes and to further promote the cause.
The few student workers who helped were “huge assets with all activities,” as stated by Sabrina Canola, administrative assistant at VC East Campus.
“We have a great team this year,” said Canola in an email. For more information on supporting breast cancer awareness, visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s website at http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/
