The Ventura County Museum of History and Art has unveiled its new name, The Museum of Ventura County, and a plan to expand the museum’s space.
But it’s not the expansion or the name that everyone is talking about, it’s that no one has heard about it before.
The Museum of Ventura County offers a wide variety of the county’s history, using art galleries, exhibits and an extensive collection of books found in the museum’s research library.
If that isn’t enough, the museum store offers books, videotapes and audiotapes for sale.
The museum has chartered itself with preserving artifacts that are central to Ventura county and its residents.
Some of these artifacts include local artists work, artifacts from the Chumash Indain tribe, farm equipment that has been used throughout the years, saddles and tack, and furniture and other decorative items from local families, just to name a few.
The 18,000 sq. ft. expansion will make room for additional galleries and will expand the research galleries, the museum store and classrooms for the many educational lectures and programs.
The expansion will help to draw more visitors for future success.
The Museum of Ventura County is located on 100 East Main Street in downtown Ventura.
It is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $1 for children. For more information on school tours and educational programs, call (805) 653-0323 or email [email protected].
