UPDATE: According to John Sinutko, the parking structure is set to open by or before March 1, 2014.
For students that constantly struggle with parking, there is some good news on the horizon. Hundreds of new parking spaces will soon open for students.
As many may have noticed, there is a massive parking structure in the works on the east side of campus near the new Health Science Center. The project began Oct. 15, 2012 and is finally coming close to completion.
“The construction of the project is essentially completed, and the contractor is finalizing the ‘Punch List’ items,” said Iris Ingram, Moorpark College’s Vice President and overseer of Business Services.
Ingram explained the final ‘Punch List’ items that still need to be completed.
“We are completing the installation of FF&E (Furnishings, Fixtures, and Equipment) over the next few weeks, and coordinating the move of Campus Police into the new station,” Ingram continued.
There will be 743 parking spots, including the “new adjacent surface parking,” reports Ingram. For the growing student population this means that there will be 731 spots on concrete, 11 spaces for faculty and 1 for police.
While the construction and timeline for the project are all on schedule, there is no exact date yet for opening day. Ingram confirms that it will be sometime during the Spring semester.
