Students pursuing a future at the Ivy League school Columbia University are advised to attend a workshop by the Moorpark Transfer Center on Oct. 15 at 4pm in Fountain Hall room 110.
Last year, Moorpark College had two students transfer to Columbia University and they are still attending. This year, the university is coming to Moorpark’s campus to speak with students who are interested in attending their school in New York.
Career Transfer Center coordinator Judi Gould says that Moorpark College should feel privileged and honored that such a topped ranked school is visiting our campus.
“It is a real opportunity for students interested in going to New York and attending an Ivy League school,” said Gould.
Columbia is seeking students that would become a part of their general studies program. According to Gould it is a very unique program.
Erik Summers, 20, communications major said that the workshop will be very beneficial and that those who attend will get a lot out of it.
“Giving information on exactly the steps that need to be taken as far as application, transfer programs offered and general excitement on attending the university,” said Summers.
Columbia University is looking for students that are 21 years of age and have a superior grade point average. Representatives from the college will be present on campus to help students and provide more information to those that are interested in becoming a student at their school.
Brook Williams, 19, biology major, sees the workshop as a good way of retrieving information but does not plan on attending the workshop.
“I don’t think I would attend because I want a school that is more local,” said Williams.
This will be the only time that Columbia visits Moorpark this fall. Students with questions about the school or program can attend the workshop to receive more information. One on one time with the representative will be available after the workshop’s completion.
Students interested in attending Columbia University are required to reserve a spot to attend the workshop by stopping by the Transfer Center located in Fountain Hall, calling 805-378-1536 or sending an email to [email protected].
For information about other colleges visiting Moorpark can check out the calendar at the Transfer Center or by visiting the website at http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/services_for_students/transfer_center/rep_visits.shtml.
