Aspiring heroes in spandex. Dirt-bike-riding gear. Raincoats. What do these things have in common? They took on higher-than-average temperatures for the month of February when withstood the heat to get on the realty show “Who Wants to be a Superhero?” Open auditions were held at Universal City Walk February 16 and 17. Some hopeful heroes who watched the first season of the show flew at the chance to audition for the second. While there were some would-be heroes that only came to promote themselves, others wished to live their dreams and become a legendary hero, giving their character a comic book series and a Sci-Fi Channel original movie according to scifichannel.com/superhero. Lyle “Freakman” Stevens, 43, an Apartment Manager from Long Beach told the crowd why he auditioned, “I think it would be an adventure of a life time, and I would love to bring a new and exciting character to the public.” “I was kind of surprised, there weren’t as many people as I thought there would be,” said David “Mastermage” Pereyra, 22, a Student and Hospital Worker from Glendale. Michael “The American Vision” Krillin, 24, a USC Academic Advisor from San Gabriel said “I was a little disappointed by the way they kept changing things. And they said they’d use clip on mics but then gave us ones we had to hold, also we definitely got a lot less time than the auditions shown on the web.” By the end of the auditions, many of the heroes posed for pictures with tourist and passers-by that watched the auditions. “It was awesome. It was one of the best experiences I had. I just wish I had more of a chance of getting on,” said Anton “Empty Force” Torres, 18, a student from Bakersfield.
