Karissa Flack, the 6 foot middle blocker from Newbury Park, has given her verbal commitment to the University of North Texas.
Head Coach, Ken Murczek, of North Texas flew Flack out for a two day visit in early February. Right away, Karissa felt at home.
“I felt comfortable. I had a good feeling about Coach Murczek,” said Flack. “He showed me that he really wanted me to play for him and it’s obvious he loves his team.”
Flack’s numbers this season were more than impressive. In 83 games she recorded 364 kills, with a 4.39 kills per game average. She isn’t just an offensive force to be reckoned with, she had 83 blocks on the season as well. As mind-blowing as these individual numbers are, her team numbers are what really impressed college coaches. Flack captained a team that made history. Going back to the beginning of the Western State Conference records (1980), no women’s volleyball team had ever gone through conference play winning every set. Moorpark College finished conference play with an overall record of (20-3) and a conference record of (12-0). On top of that history, it was Moorpark’s fourth consecutive WSC title, and eighth in 11 years.
Flack was commended for all her accomplishments at the end of the season. She was named 1st Team All American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Along with 1st Team All-State honors, and awarded with the Most Valuable Player of Year Award for the Western State Conference.
The North Texas Mean Grean will surely get better by acquiring Flack to their front line. UNT competes in the Sun Belt Conference and placed 3rd in the western division this past season with a (7-9) record.
Flack’s focus is stronger then ever now that she has accomplished her goal of signing a Division 1 athletic scholarship.
“I plan to just focus on school and volleyball,” said Flack. “They are paying for my education and I have to be all about it.”
Karissa plans on studying business management at North Texas.
