Once class lists are announced, it’s a sure thing that students swarm to the Counseling Office to get the classes they want.
Longtime Moorpark students have no doubts about it being a busy place where the lines extend outside the Administration Building. However, in between class enrollment periods the office is quiet.
“Right now is what we consider to be a quieter time for students to get their needs met by the Counselors Department,” said Chair Corey Wendt.
Wendt explained the importance of coordinating a time to meet with a counselor during enrollment. “We encourage students to make appointments with counselors according to what their major is,” stated Wendt. “Wait times for certain majors can be two weeks or more, depending on the availability of counselors.”
Wendt accounted for the wait time by explaining that the counseling office has fewer counselors this year. “A couple of counselors retired last year, and we are not in a situation where we have as many counselors as we’d like,” said Wendt. “It’s important now that students can come in and actually get an opportunity to speak with their counselor.”
As for attending appointments with counselors, Wendt warns that students make sure they can keep their appointments with the counselors. Or if they know they are unable to attend, to call ahead and cancel their appointment at least a couple of days ahead of time so that the appointment is available for another student.
In order to get advice for Fall 2012 classes, Wendt suggests taking a few minutes to stop by the Counseling Office to schedule an appointment today.
