Construction and development continues after the initial ground-breaking of the new Oxnard College Performing Arts Center.
Workers are currently breaking out and excavating the lawn of the new building.
Cathy Garnica, Public Relations & Marketing, said the foundation layout shall begin later this year after successful testing of the locations soil.
The Performing Arts center is expected to be of great value to the campus and generate more community involvement, said Garnica.
Some of the features of the new center include a 400-seat multipurpose auditorium, a 100-black box theater, Oxnard College Television Studio, pre-production/post-production facilities and an area set aside for expansion of the auditorium stage, costume and carpentry shops, if program development warrants.
The project is being funded by Bond Measure S for the amount of $13.7 million.
Completed construction is currently scheduled for 2010.
