Transfer Day is coming to Moorpark College next Tuesday September 23rd where students will have the once-a-year opportunity to meet college representatives from over 50 different universities.
Every year, a team of students and staff in the Career/Transfer Center arrange this unique opportunity to give students the next best thing to actually visiting the campuses themselves. Judi Gould, a counselor from the Career/Transfer Center, encourages all students to attend Transfer Day.
“My favorite part is seeing how students look to network with the college representatives,” said Gould. “They learn about opportunities that may not have otherwise existed.”
The event will be held from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. on the Campus Quad where every university will have a booth set up to talk to students. The UC and Cal State schools will have booths set up, but also some out-of-state schools will be present, like University of New Mexico, St. John’s College, and the International University of Nursing. Representatives will be available to answer students’ general questions about the university, provide students with transfer information, give students pamphlets and flyers, and introduce students to their prospective university.
Moorpark College is known to hold the highest transfer rate to UC and CSU schools among California community college based on enrollment. Moorpark is also consistently ranked in the top 10 UC transfers and is in the top 20 for CSU transfers every year.
Additionally, there will be special information sessions for UCLA (1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.), for Cal Poly, SLO (1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.) and USC (2 p.m.- 3 p.m.). The representatives will be there for about an hour to answer specific questions in a group of around 30 students. Students are encouraged to sign up for this event in the Career/Transfer Center.
Melissa Mendoza, 18, a psychology major, attended the event last year.
“I was surprised at how much information I got all in one area.” said Mendoza. “It was really helpful to find out about all the options I have available.”
