The Music Department at Moorpark College will present “A Musical Offering” on Sept. 27 that will feature music from various artists as well as from Moorpark College faculty members.
The concert will give students an opportunity to enjoy and celebrate a live performance by the talented faculty members who mentor them every day. The artists will be performing both standard and eclectic music.
“Live, realistic performances of classical music are a very special and different experience than listening to a perfectly edited recording,” said long-time faculty member Dr. Dolly Kessner. “It makes it even more meaningful when the students know these are their musical mentors who are showing them the rewards of the many hours spent practicing their instrument”
Kessner, who is currently on a leave of absence so that she can focus on her professional classical career, will be performing at the event. Kessner and music Professor Joan Thompson have been organizing the concert for the past 18 years at Moorpark.
Although the name of the concert has changed over the years, the purpose continues to remain the same. All of the funds raised at this bi-annual event will be used for scholarships that will be awarded to students at the end of the school year.
“I have performed in most of these concerts because I care about the continuing success of this music program which has a reputation of producing excellent, well-prepared students who are able to transfer successfully into the four year university” said Kessner.
The concert will be held on the Main Stage of the Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. General Admission is $16, $9 for staff, and $8 for students. For more information contact the box office at 805-378-1485.
