$70,000 in scholarships and academic awards were handed out to Oxnard College students and faculty at the 30th annual OxnardCollege Awards Ceremony on Sunday.
The awards banquet was held at the Marriott in Oxnard, where over 50 scholarships, Academic Excellence awards, and Excellence in Service awards were given to deserving students and faculty.
Recipients of the “Excellence in Service” awards were presented to faculty, staff, student and community members who were nominated by heir peers based on dedication to the campus.
The Oxnard College Foundation presented its “Heart of Gold” Award to Augie Castaneda, a longtime member of the staff who runs the publications resource center on campus and who has worked as an adviser to the Asian-Pacific Islander Club. Castaneda received the award for her work in the “Adopt a Computer” program that provides computer technology to students who cannot afford it.
Various types of scholarships awarded to students included Memorial Scholarships, Community Organizations Scholarships, Oxnard College Foundation Scholarships, and many others provided by clubs, organizations, and departments at Oxnard College. Students who received awards were those who will transfer to universities or plan to continue their studies at Oxnard College.
Among the students who received scholarships were Jose Hernandez, Ayde Mendoza, Aisha Gonzales, Rose Gonzalez, Juana Ramirez, and many more.
Oxnard College student Xuemeng Wang received more scholarships than any other individual student who attended the banquet.
