Moorpark College Athletic Director John Keever will step down from his position this spring after 14 years in the big chair and 37 years of service on campus.
Since 1969, Keever has dedicated himself to Moorpark’s athletic department. Now at 61 years old, he is still working hard for his beloved students. He does, however, have plans for life after retirement, which is well deserved.
“I’m going to travel some with my wife,” says Keever. “She’s retiring, too; and I’m going to take the time to enjoy my family.”
Two years after the opening of Moorpark College, Keever was hired as an assistant football coach and held the position for 10 years. He was also an assistant track coach on campus for 18 years, a throw coach, and head coach for the wrestling team for 27 years. Keever has always kept busy and is proud of the job that he has done.
“Working with the athletes was the highlight of my career,” said Keever. “There is nothing I would change.”
Keever led Moorpark to two state championships in 1990 and 1991 and 17 conference championships. In both 1990 and 1991, Keever was named State Coach of the Year for wrestling.
“I would hope to be remembered as a caring, concerned educator,” said Keever.
The Moorpark College community will throw Keever a retirement celebration on Friday at the Moorpark Country Club. Tickets are being sold at $35. For more information on attending this historical event, contact the Moorpark Athletic Department at (805) 378-1457.
