The Moorpark College theater department will open its theater season on Sept. 28 with the controversial play, “Twilight of the Golds.”Written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Moorpark College Professor Rolland Petrello, “The Twilight of the Golds” tells the story of Suzanne Gold, a medical school dropout and manager of a clothing store, and her husband Rob Stein, a genetic researcher and son of Orthodox Jews who disapproves of their son’s career. When Rob and Suzanne submit their unborn child to experimental testing, they discover that the baby has a 90 percent chance of being homosexual. Suzanne confides to her mother about the news and before long the entire family knows about the baby and it’s probable homosexuality. The decision on whether to abort the baby creates conflict in Rob and Suzanne’s marriage and the rest of the family as different people weigh in with their opinions.”It’s a liberal’s nightmare,” said Ryan Haynie, the actor who plays Suzanne’s gay brother, David Gold. “Homosexuals fighting against abortion.”The cast is confident about the upcoming theater season and is pleased with this bold play.”It’s a very powerful play to start off the semester with,” said Megan Trout, the actress who plays Suzanne Gold. The cast also hopes that “The Twilight of the Golds” will provoke discussion about issues that are normally difficult to talk about it. “The Twilight of the Golds’ is not going to leave people happy.
