Ventura College’s purchase of a new scoreboard will be put on hold temporarily, as the item’s price tag caused unease at Wednesday’s Board of Trustees meeting.
Trustee Arturo Hernandez was the first to bring up the subject, saying he was under the impression the $76,339 scoreboard was being funded by a grant and not by district funds. Due to the confusion, the Board of Trustees unanimously decided to discuss the issue during the next Board meeting, when more information would be provided.
Athletic Director of Ventura College Will Cowen says this decision is nothing to be concerned about; as he is confident Ventura College will be granted approval for the scoreboard.
“I think it’s just a minor confusion,” said Cowen. “When it comes to money they just want to make sure nothing’s being wasted, but this is good investment.”
The Board of Trustees will decide whether the district should purchase the scoreboard at the next meeting, on Feb. 9, at Oxnard College.
