Students interested in a fun yet educational event with guest speakers, dance, exhibits, and vendors, are in for a treat next month.
Moorpark College is having its 19th annual Multicultural Day, as well as the second annual Poster Symposium, on April 15th from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Multicultural Day was originally created back in 1990, by a group of three college professors at a teacher’s seminar in Malibu.
They wanted to create a committee of eight or nine faculty members, to oversee the events.
History Professor Ranford Hopkins, one the originators of the ideas, put it, “the rest is history.”
The Poster Symposium was created for athletic students to show their work.
“Athletes typically showcase what they do in games, while students in classrooms never get a chance to display what they do.” said sociology Professor Cynthia Barnett, who runs the Poster Symposium events. “This is a way to encourage showing what they have learned.”
The Poster Symposium, which is held in Fountain Hall, opens its doors to the public at 9 a.m.
For more details on the Poster Symposium, Honors Program Office can be contacted at (805) 378-1400, ext 1840.
The deadline to enter for the Poster Symposium is April 4.
