The FLeX Club and the fitness specialists at Moorpark College are getting together to host Moorpark’s first annual Xtreme Raider Challenge on Nov. 17 to get people moving in a fun-run obstacle course challenge.
This fitness obstacle challenge raises money for the fitness specialist program here at Moorpark College. Participants who sign up for this race will get to compete against other Moorpark college students in a race that will test their fitness abilities.
Nick Macke, Fitness Specialist at Moorpark College says students will be tested mentally and physically during the event.
“Any students signing up for this event should expect to be challenged in various ranges of motion combing power, strength endurance, stabilization and core. It’s a total body obstacle course that will push students to mentally and physically,” said Macke.
The Xtreme Raider Challenge is taking place as a fundraising and promotional event for the Fitness program. Jeff Kreil, Faculty Advisor for FLeX, explained the purpose of the Raider Challenge.
“It will go towards the student center equipment, things we use in our classroom,” said Kreil. “We are even looking into promoting scholarships for our program and for the FLeX club, and even pay for field trips for guest speakers.”
The class lets students intern at the college as personal trainers, training faculty and group fitness instructors. Their final will show how they can organize and lead an event from everything that they have learned.
The trainers said that racers should do full body workouts, as well as train aerobically and anaerobically. Activities include ropes, strength and cardio obstacles, and even tires. Prizes will also be given out for winners, as well as supplement vendors and other fitness related booths.
The event takes place Saturday, Nov. 17 with check-in starting at 6:15 a.m. The race starts at 7 a.m. and goes to 3 p.m. A ticket to race will cost $25 through Nov.16. Racers must be a student at Moorpark and be at least 18 years old. Students can get their spot on this racing list by talking to a fitness specialist. You can find the trainers in the Kinesiology building, and can email them at [email protected].
People participating in the event can bring friends and family to watch the race for free. The racers must bring a photo ID, a towel, water, Gatorade, snacks, and their “A” game.
