Athletes participated in an endurance challenge to be tested mentally and physically at the Xtreme Raider Challenge at Moorpark College on Nov.17.
Participants were able to compete in eight obstacle courses that were led by fitness specialist interns and cheered on by volunteers.
McKenna Lee, first place winner for the Women Raider Challenge said that she wouldn’t have won if she weren’t given help from the Fitness Specialist Interns and the Fitness program.
“I am really proud of myself. It was great. I had improved a lot,” said Lee. “I couldn’t have done it without anyone pushing me.”
The Xtreme Raider Challenge started its first competition where over 30 athletes participated.
Jeff Kreil, event organizer for the Xtreme Raider Challenge, said that the overall event was a success.
“I thought it was fantastic. It went really well. Obviously with the rain it kind of slows things down sometimes,” said Kreil. “We had a great showing of competitors, our volunteers were clutch, our interns did a great job of getting people organized covering everything we needed to cover.”
Both the men’s and women’s team had to go through obstacles such as the power wheel, bear crawl, hurdle duck under, battle jacks, heavy jump rope, farmer’s walk, army crawl, ball sit ups, and the stadium run.
Hannah Brown, participant at the Raider Challenge, said what she like the least and best at the challenge.
“My favorite is the army crawl because it is really easy and my least favorite is the hurdles because they make your legs really stiff,” said Brown.
The top three winners from the men and women groups were chosen to win prizes. The winners for the men’s competition were Fran Vercher, Michael Shirley, and Antonio Galindo. For the women’s competition the winners were McKenna Lee, Brandy Lara, and Katie Daniels.
The third place winners received a medal along with a lifetime subscription to dotFit nutrition program and a goody bag with products from all of the sponsors at the event. The second place winners also received a medal along with a goody bag with supplements for weight management, and a lifetime subscription to dotFit Nutrition program. The first place winners received a trophy and medal alongside a 90 day membership to 24 Hour Fitness, dotFit exerspy, goody bag with supplements for weight management and a lifetime subscription to dotFit nutrition program.
Angel Yanez, Fitness Specialist Intern, said that hopefully the Xtreme Raider Challenge will be even better next fall.
“It was good we had a short notice promotion and the turnout was really good,” said Yanez. “For the first time hopefully it gets better and better and now people have an idea on how things work.”
