On the soccer field, the Santa Barbara Vaqueros defeated the men of Oxnard College with a competitive second half and a final score of 2-1.
The Condors defense was forced to work hard, as the Vaqueros came out pushing the ball on the Condors.
With a big first half offensive attack for the Vaqueros, the Condors goal keeper Jesus Romero made a great effort to keep the game tied at 0-0.
The Condors defense was up to the challenge until the last minute of the first half when the Vaqueros put the goal past Romero making the game 1-0.
At the half, the Condors ran back to their bench with their head up high knowing that the second half would be different and keeping in mind that they would have to work harder going forward.
Condors head coach Ross Greaney was pleased with the way his key players stepped up going into the second half.
“Good leaders stepped up to the plate to give the rest of the team confidence,” said Greaney. “It was not over, and they will have to push the game up a notch in order to change the direction of the game.”
The game turned rough and dirty in the second half, as players from both teams were pushing one hundred percent of their will power. No.5 Sergio Garcia pushed his teammates to put pressure on the Vaqueros.
15 minutes into the second half, Garcia came upon a great opportunity to steal the ball from the Vaqueros defense. He went all the way in to the Vaqueros goal keepers box were he didn’t hesitate to take the shot that would tie the game 1-1.
The fight for the ball didn’t stop the entire second half. As the game continued the Vaqueros found an open opportunity to change the game and scored in the last minutes of the second half putting the final score of the game 2-1. The Vaqueros walked off the field knowing it was not an easy win as the Condors pressured their offense the entire game.
