Theft has become a concern throughout all three campuses in the Ventura County college district, with burglaries of personal items from within Moorpark facilities, stolen vehicles at Oxnard and Ventura, and a continuing pattern of burglaries from vehicles at Ventura College parking lots.
Within the month of January there were a total of eight reported thefts from vehicles at Ventura College, and as February progresses, two more incidents have been reported yet police still have no suspects. However, District Chief of Police James Botting said that similarities in the burglaries do provide specific warnings for potential victims.
Most incidents have occurred during basketball games, which last from 5:30 p.m. to7:30 p.m. The burglar or burglars targets Ford vehicles, particularly Rangers and Expeditions. Botting suspects that the thief also has access to an electronic device that can deactivate alarms and unlock the doors of these vehicles.
