Art and animation lovers can check out the marriage of the two mediums at the new art show now on display at the administration building at Moorpark College.
The exhibit displays student work in the areas of: 3D animation, web/interactive design, motion graphics, digital imaging, digital illustration and typography. Photography Professor John Gray, founder of the multimedia department, is enthusiastic about the event.
“This is just the beginning,” said Gray. “And the future is going to bring many professional success stories that will eventually put the Moorpark College Multimedia program at the front of community college programs.”
The exhibit opened on Jan. 26 and is the first to include interactive computer consoles and digitally created art. The monitors were set up by the Multimedia Club President Tim Rosdahl, who had help and support in organizing from club members. A main driving force behind this event is Lead Multimedia Professor Svetlana Kasalovic.
Moorpark student Ross Carmichael explained “there are so many doors in multi-media”. Carmichael has taken every multi-media class offered at Moorpark and sees the area as a potential second career. He created the animated short, “Bear Quest” in which a bear embarks on a “most excellent” journey of self-discovery.
Another student work featured was created by Vrej Grigorian, who aided in the founding of the multi-media club. Vrej used his talents to create a computer game which teaches about his native country of Armenia. This game promotes global awareness by teaching students about the geography, history, religion and culture of Armenia.
“One of my favorite moments in time is having tea with my grandmother and this photo is a visualization of my inner feelings,” Thompson explained.
Film major Heidi Hanson created a music video for her favorite band “30 Seconds to Mars” as a kind of ‘fan gift.’ “People don’t understand, you just have to make something without being asked to,” said Hanson. “You have to get your work out there.” exhibit is all about.
