Have you ever wanted to publish some of your artwork in a respectable art magazine? Well, look no further!
Poets, creative writers, photographers and graphic artists can submit their work until Feb. 14 to Moorpark College’s literary magazine, a high-quality, glossy-paged publication produced once a year.
For the past seven years, the Moorpark Review Creative Arts Journal has been a magazine of artwork that provides Moorpark students with a means of expression. All types of artwork are accepted. Some areas that have been featured include; poems, short fiction and visual arts. Space in the review is limited but whatever does not make it into the book is used on the website.
“The purpose of this magazine is to give Moorpark College students a place to show off their talents, express themselves and to ‘get their feet wet’ in the world of writing and art,” said Tracy Tennenhouse, one of the three faculty advisers of the Moorpark Review. “We are different from most college magazines because we publish 100% Moorpark College students and staff. Other magazines publish very few of their own and frequently seek outside writers.”
The deadline for submissions is Feb.14. The editors of the journal then work until May when the magazine is published.
In 1998, The Moorpark Review Creative Arts Journal was created for artists at Moorpark College to publish their art and writings. As the years went on, the popularity of the magazine increased, giving editors a chance to build a website to provide room for art that could not make the printed page. “Submissions are from students, faculty and staff, the vast majority being student submission,” stated Professor Hart Schulz, another adviser to the magazine. The journal is available at the campus bookstore for $15 and all the proceeds go to the production costs, with any profit going to next year’s issue.
To submit fiction or poetry should e-mail their works as an attachment in Microsoft Word format to either Hart Schulz [email protected] or Tracy Tennenhouse [email protected]. Art and music submissions should be on a compact disc and handed to either Hart Schulz or Tracy Tennenhouse.
