The Ventura Police Department has produced a composite drawing of the suspect in the reported attempted kidnapping of a student on campus at Ventura College this February.
VCCCD Chief of Police James Botting said that a drawing has been created by a composite artist for the VPD, based on the victim’s description. So far, police have not received any information in response to the sketch.
“There is nothing to indicate that this suspect has returned to the campus,” said Botting. “We have no reason to believe that [an attempted kidnapping] will happen again.”
The initial incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., on Feb. 4, when a Ventura College student reported to campus police that she was nearly kidnapped while she used a public phone outside of the J-building. Campus police have since been working with the Ventura Police Department to identifyand locate a suspect in the reported assault. No sightings of the suspect have been reported. Although she was not familiar with her attacker, the victim assessed the suspect to be about 6 feet tall, weigh 185 lbs, and is in his mid 20’s.
The 18-year-old student told police that she did not recognize the man who approached her that Saturday evening. She did manage to break free after he grasped her arm, and escaped the situation unharmed. The victim ran to the campus police station, and campus officers immediately alerted the Ventura city police, who responded to aid in an extensive yet unyielding search for the suspect.
The victim’s identity will remain anonymous, Botting explained, which is standard in most cases of assault. Botting reported that there are currently no leads on this case.
Regarding identification of the attacker, Botting said that there was a certain person of interest at one point, but police do not have enough information to pinpoint a suspect.
Please report any information regarding this incident to the Ventura Police Department headquarters at (805) 339-4400.
