The Moorpark Review is accepting submissions from now until Feb. 28 for multiple art forms including writing, photo, music, and visual art to be published in the 2013 edition.
Thousands of students’ creative art has been published since 1998. They are now inviting students to be a part of the process. The Review is open for submission once a year and encourages students to have their work published for the upcoming edition.
Sarit Ben-Nissan, 19, art history major, is excited to submit her work to the Moorpark Review and have her art available to the other Moorpark students.
“This is the first year I heard about this,” Ben-Nissan said. “This could really be a great opportunity to get my painting published. This could look good in my resume and college applications as well.”
Hart Schultz, one of the head faculty members of the Moorpark review, said that the submissions are open to all those who are interested.
Submissions are first published online and then are reviewed by the Literary Magazine Publishing Lab which is an English course taught by Professor Tracy Tennenhouse and Schultz. After being reviewed, the art is then published in the print editions and available for purchase at the bookstore.
Shultz mentions that submissions among art students are rather popular. It is typical to receive somewhere around two to three hundred submissions of fiction, poetry, and visual art. Shultz said that the literary and visual art is not what they limit their submissions to.
“We are also accepting music submissions,” says Shultz. “When the hard copy edition is published, the music is available on a compact CD so readers can listen at their own convenience.”
It is important for students who are interested to apply as soon as possible because submissions will no longer be accepted after Feb. 28.
Issues of the 2013 edition of the Moorpark Review will be available for purchase at the book store sometime in mid-May. Older editions can be viewed at the Moorpark library as well.
“The book provides inspiration to those considering a future in creative arts,” said Shultz.
