A Ventura College club is providing the opportunity to visit a top university in California for all students interested in learning more about health sciences fields.
The Pre-med Interclub Council Representative Rosalina Villalon said a few more spots need to be filled before they go.
“We have about five or six people that are going,” said Villalon. “We’d like to take up to nine people.”
The club is going to Stanford University to attend the 22nd Annual Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) regional conference April 7 and 8. The students will travel to the university and spend the weekend in workshops, attending seminars featuring professionals in the field of medicine.
The theme of the conference is ‘Creating Leadership: Striving to Improve Latino Healthcare’. Over 1,000 people are expected to attend ranging from prospective high school students to health care professionals. Some of the workshop and seminar topics will be on financial aid, personal statement writing, healthcare careers panels, and MCAT® strategies. The whole event will be concluded with an evening banquet.
Pre-med is an active Ventura College club who is inclusive to all students, but focus on supporting students interested in medical school. Throughout the year, the club attends conferences, and provides students with information about medical school and available internships. Their mission is to aid students through meetings, guest speakers, and field trips so students will have the preparation and knowledge for acceptance into schools of higher standing. They also donate their time to help others. Students interested in attending the upcoming LMSA conference will need to let the club know by their next meeting on March 10 at 12: 30 p.m. at the VC Mesa Center in room 221.
