The Moorpark College Men’s and Women’s track teams continued their strong season by competing at the Ed Adams Invitational and leaving winners.
Both the men’s and women’s squads had strong performances by some of their continuing outstanding players. For the men’s squad Rex Bridgeforth was able to win the triple jump (46′ 2.3″) and place 2nd in the long jump (22′ 4″). Teammates Eki Faagai and Robert Hogan finished 1st (158′ 10″) and 2nd (156’11”) in the discus.
The women’s squad was able to dominate in the discus and shot put by taking five of the first six places. Aubrey Baxter won the shot put (48′ 7″) while sophomore Jennifer Onyeagbako took 2nd place (44′ 6″). Not only did Onyeagbako take 2nd place in the shot put but she also dominated in the discus by winning the event and setting a new school record at 169′ 7.”
“I was nervous before the event took place,” said Onyeagbako in regards to the record that she set. ” When I found out all my teammates around me were really excited it was really exciting for me.”
With the win now behind both squads all they have to worry about now are the upcomingtournaments that are ahead of them, especially the Western State Conference Championship that will be held at Moorpark College on April 29. The women’s track coach, Traycie Kephart, is hoping that students can come out and support their squads.
“I think that it’s a big event for not only the track teams but for the school as well,” said Kephart.
