Children and their families can enjoy a day of fun and great food while supporting their community at the Oxnard College Child Development Center’s BBQ fundraiser on April 25.
The event will give parents a chance to check out the CDC , if they are considering enrolling their children. They can see the kind of fun activities and friendly staff that the CDC offers.
Center Director Kim Karkos was grateful for the generous contributions of everyone involved. “The reason this is successful is because of the amount of dedicated work put in by parents and staff as well as the entire college community. It’s a wonderful show of solidarity.”
The majority of funds raised will go towards expanding the CDC’s services to infants and toddlers as well as providing scholarships for pre-kindergarten age kids from low-income households, enabling them to enroll in the development center which better prepares them for kindergarten. The CDC already receives grants from the Destined to Succeed Program, for which they need to also raise money to match funds.
“Pre-Kindergarten education is a crucial part in the development of all children, regardless of their parents’ income,” Karkos said.
The event will offer carnival activities for kids, such as face painting and classrooms with themed activities. Parents will enjoy a silent auction in which four large gift baskets will be raffled off. The fundraiser will be located in the amphitheatre area between the Library and Student Services building from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Barbecue meals will be available at $5.99 for adults and $3.99 for kids. In addition, parents and teachers will sell home-baked goods. All food will be donated by parents and profits earned will go to support the children of the CDC.
